Daily Painting 003 – Circus & Dawn

They day where I finally use something I bought over 10 years ago and have brought with me while moving to 4 different cities/5 different apartments.

The answer is: Oil pastels. Yesterday night I was surfing some art websites and was admiring pretty oil paintings and suddenly I had this idea in my mind – can I paint on canvas with oil pastels? I quickly googled it and yes, you can! Forward to today, I knew I had a pack of oil pastels somewhere. I never used it before because I thought I don’t really like the look of them on paper.

I looked in my art shelf, and there they were: 48 of them! Past me probably knew that they would come in handy some day. I opened them and swatched a few of them on paper and was amazed! What beautiful and vibrant colors. I had no idea they were so pretty! I quickly swatched all of them and started painting. I absolutely love the outcome of those two paintings today. They make me so happy, looking at them. The colors are beautiful and they look even more pretty in reality – especially the yellow painting doesn’t translate as well in the photograph, the cadmium yellow washes are much more lively in reality.
