Hello lovely readers! I thought I’d change it up a bit on my blog. It’s very time consuming to update daily, especially when some paintings are only color studies and I don’t have too much to say about every single one of them.
I thought I’m going to start to work in more of a weekly themed process and post the paintings grouped together. I’m going to stick to a certain style of working, color palette or size for a few days and then think about what I liked about that and which direction I want to continue.
I was inspired by my love for the color Payne’s Grey and also the way I love to play with color contrasts. You can even see this in the way I dress, I usually get everything in gray and then mix it up with pops of color. I love the monochromatic background and then breaking it up with very bright colors.
I got new bright colors this week, ultramarine & cobalt blue, neon pink & neon yellow. I still tried to dull the neon colors a bit by mixing them with more normal red / yellow pigments, but I wanted them to still be bright enough to pop out of the gray background. The grey is more of a watercolor wash. I also have a palette knife now and it’s the first time I’ve worked with one, I’m loving it!
I love using colors straight from the tube more than I thought before. Always thought that was kind of a no-no, but it’s contemporary art – so who cares? 😉
Working with a palette knife, it makes the finished painting look a lot more ‘painterly’ and polished, love it!
See you in a few days 🙂 I’m working on lots of great things at the moment!
