Welcome, ! We had pretty cold, gray and foggy days for a while here in Germany but at the moment it’s so sunny and beautiful. I spend most of my time painting and sipping hot chocolate, while watching Gilmore Girls.
When I’m not painting or keeping up with my Social Media I try to learn more about the abstract painting process. It’s not so easy to find online information about it, for example tutorials. Abstract painting is a very personal process and I never really read anything about it, just tried to follow my instincts. The more I work however I think about the process of other artists and I often wonder how they go about their art making, and what ideas and techniques they combine.
I found a really nice art blog yesterday by , which has lovely short essays about the art process in general. I can really recommend that. But I’m also on the look out for all kinds of books regarding that topic, so if you have a recommendation for me, I’d love to hear it. I guess otherwise the book by sounds promising and might be just what I am looking for.
For this painting series I wanted to further experiment with my love for neon colors, but also wanted to stay with my primary color contrasts. I tried to work less transparent this time and make use of patterns and lots of overlapping shapes. The ‘Neon Cities’ painting is by far my favorite of the three and looks just gorgeous when you stand in front of it. The risk of going over the finished painting with transparent pink washes worked out really well in the end.
I also learned that sometimes I just need to push myself one step further. Things that worked great on one day can easily be boring if they are repeated on the next. It sounds like such a clichee but comfort really is the death of all great art.
I wish all of you a beautiful & productive month!
